I try to read a couple of chapters a day in scripture, not as a religious duty, but to get revelation. Today I was reading out of the Psalms.
Psalm 63–A Psalm of David; when he was in the Wilderness of Judah. (Amplified version)
1O GOD, You are my God, earnestly will I seek You; my inner self thirsts for You, my flesh longs and is faint for You, in a dry and weary land where no water is.
YEARS ago I wrote a song based on this Psalm. It was around the time I was in grad school and a friend from church (Tony Nucaro) just happened to be recording some of his own songs. He asked me if I wanted to be on the “album”. Really, it was just for him to pass around as gifts to friends and family. I agreed, but really had no clue of what I was doing. (This was actually before music was put on CDs – this music went on cassette tapes.) Tony was gracious and kind to me to allow me to be a part of his project. Little did I know that he was making a way for me in an arena that God was leading me into. Technically, my work on the song could have used some more work. But it didn’t really matter. It was the moment, it was the heart, and it was the message that was being recorded that day. And now, today, the same heart, the same message, and a lot more technical & musical help has found its way into my life. I see even more divine setups along my journey….a guy from our home group from about 10 years ago (and a musician in his own right) “just happens” to own a recording studio…..an incredible singer / songwriter / musician who used to be with a national touring band “just happens” to become the guitarist & a co-producer on my last album. The Zach & Sarah band, as well as a whole group of talented mother and daughter singers…the list goes on! The most amazing part of all is that ALL of these people were my (our) friends before I even had the thought to start recording CDs. There may be few things in my life that I could take credit for, but this is clearly NOT one of them. Thank God for His provision and timing. And wherever you are Tony, thanks for being a way maker & for seeing something that I had not yet seen.
2So I have looked upon You in the sanctuary to see Your power and Your glory. 3 Because Your loving-kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You. 4So will I bless You while I live….
